Svein Øverland, a specialist in clinical psychology and author of the book Selvskading - en praktisk tilnærming (Self-harming – a practical approach, published by fagbokforlaget), has written this article for DIXI, dealing with treatment of and focus on coping with self-harming.

In this article I want to focus on the role that the non-verbal communication between two living bodies can play in the psychotherapeutic process. In a case study I will demonstrate the healing potential of such a communication. I will also discuss the theoretical embedding of my therapeutic approach.

In this article I want to share my personal journey through culture. Based on my own experience I will focus on various facets of intercultural communication. On the one hand I will explore the manifold misreadings and challenges. On the other hand I hope to show how a growing cultural awareness may also enrich our relationships, especially in a therapeutic setting.
